Welcoming the Year with Joy and Tradition

Chinese New Year Celebration

13 February 2026

Last February 13, our school came alive with vibrant colors, rhythmic beats, and heartfelt performances as we celebrated Chinese New Year in a truly festive and meaningful way. Welcoming the Year of the Horse, a symbol of energy, strength, and perseverance, the event brought together students and teachers across grade levels—many dressed in red and gold, traditional colors believed to bring good fortune and prosperity—showcasing not only cultural appreciation but also creativity and community spirit.

A Showcase of Culture and Talent

The celebration opened with an energetic Drum Dance, setting a powerful tone for the day. This was followed by the ever-exciting Lion Dance, whose lively movements and symbolic gestures filled the space with good fortune and positivity. A special highlight of the performance was when our Directress/Principal, Sr. Jacqueline C. Manuel, OP, offered a token to the lion, and in return, received vegetables—an auspicious gesture symbolizing prosperity, abundance, and blessings for the entire school community.

Adding a dynamic and culturally rich element to the program, Ann Chou of Grade 10A performed a Chinese spear martial arts routine, emphasizing fluidity, power, and technique. Her performance featured fast, precise movements—such as cat stances, cuts, and thrusts—that demonstrated both discipline and artistry, captivating the audience throughout.

Moments of Joy from Our Young Learners

Meanwhile, our youngest learners charmed everyone with “Good Fortune is Coming…”, presented by the Kinder Blue – Jane of Aza students, whose joyful energy lit up the stage.

Creativity continued with the Grade 4 St. Margaret students in their delightful piece, “A Valentine for the Zodiac Animals,” a thoughtful and imaginative performance that beautifully connected Chinese New Year themes with the spirit of Valentine’s season.

Rhythms That Lit Up the Stage

Music took center stage as the Battle of the Bands champion wowed the audience with dynamic renditions of “This Fire” and “What Makes You Beautiful.” The energy carried on with a heartfelt performance by Grade 10 students Rita Lee and Joseph Lee, followed by the Music Sharing Group, who enchanted the audience with selections from La La Land and a lively medley of Chinese songs.

The entire celebration was a testament to the dedication and hard work of our Chinese teachers—Ms. Samantha Hsu, Ms. Carolyn Hsu, Ms. Lillian Chao, and Mr. Paul Li—who thoughtfully organized and guided the event. Special thanks also go to Mr. Tank Tien for his incredible effort in transforming the school with festive decorations, creating an atmosphere that truly captured the spirit of the occasion.

As we welcomed the new year together, the celebration reminded us of the beauty of tradition, the joy of shared experiences, and the strength of our school community.
