November 2024
The Lord watches over you — the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm — he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
Psalms 121:5-8

DIS celebrated “Health and Safety Awareness Week” from November 4 to 8, 2024. The theme was “Have a safe and healthy mind, body, and spirit”. There were activities for students as well as for teachers and staff. Different departments provided activities to the students, teachers, and staff. The Prefects of Discipline presented Campus Safety for students and Earthquake and Fire drills. The Health Department presented the Advocacy for Workplace Misconduct and Sexual Harassment Prevention.
The annual earthquake and fire drills took place on November 6, 2024. The first bell or announcement was for an earthquake drill. Drop, Cover, and Hold – should be followed. Middle School and High school students used their bags to cover their heads for protection, while the Lower School students used the special hats that the school provided to cover their heads. Teachers and staff wore white helmets. Everyone stayed wherever they were, and no movements were held.
The second bell was for the fire drill. Staff members, teachers, and students evacuated from their offices and classrooms and moved to their assigned locations. No head protection is needed for this drill. An announcement was made to return to the classrooms and offices.
The Taipei City Police Department was invited to give a talk on Campus Safety for Middle and High School students. The students were gathered in the gymnasium. The Police Department shared its campaign on Crime Prevention, Student Safety, Drugs Eradication, Traffic Rules, and Legalities of Sexual Harassment.

The school nurses, Ms. Cheryl Yang and Ms. Betty Hung invited Dr. Yvonne Lee to give a talk to teachers and staff. She talked about workplace misconduct and channels to seek assistance in encountering illegal treatment in the workplace. She presented 1955hotline.
She showed the five steps to stop workplace bullying: (1) Define and communicate expectations; (2) Understand unconscious bias; (3) Explain the organization’s commitment to diversity; (4) Encourage an atmosphere of civility; (5) Stop bullying as it is detected. She mentioned that “The Stalking and Harassment Prevention Act” was introduced on June 1, 2022 – Employers are responsible for preventing unlawful infringements in the workplace, including stalking and harassment.
Being a professional therapist, she talked about the risks of sitting too much, exercising with a chair, forward head posture (FHP), and its effect on health and Physio-Tips. The teachers and staff were very attentive and excited about her talk. Due to time constraints, the teachers and staff eagerly await its part 2 session with her in the future.
