A week-long celebration bannered this year’s 67th Jubilee year of Dominican International School. This year's theme is “Hope Lights the Way: inspiring Futures Together – Three Years to Seven Decades”. Having existed since 1957, the feeling of hope and aspiration gearing towards its 70th year transcends to all the stakeholders. Extremely, this impression inspires the whole community together. Achieving this feat in three years will boost the morale of every individual in achieving greatness.
The lighting of the first candle of the Advent wreath happened during the morning assembly on Monday, December 2, 2024. Directress / Principal Sr. Jacqueline C. Manuel, OP lighted the candle. The first candle is purple which represents Hope. The first Sunday of Advent leads us to foresee the birth of Jesus Christ, and the first week of the liturgical year.
The D’TORCH House Committee organized an activity dubbed “House Unity Dress-Up Week”. There was a specific attire for the day from December 2 to December 6. This fosters joy, enthusiasm, and unity in each house. The attire schedule is as follows:
The House System Coordinator, Ms. Archie Racadio, said that points are awarded to participants. This activity strengthens DIS's culture of harmony and solidarity.
The Pre-School Department Head, Sr. Jean Bergado, OP, planned a presentation involving the Pre-School students, the D’TORCH Orchestra and Choir, members of the Performing Arts Club, and the DIS Dance Troupe. She thought of having “The Nativity Christmas Concert” that depicts the nativity story of Jesus Christ. The nativity story is the most loved tale among Catholics, inspiring generations. There were two shows – a morning show at 9:00 AM and a regular show at 4:30 AM. The morning show is for all students, while the regular show is open to all visitors, parents, and friends.
The story begins with Santa Claus visiting children. Eager to understand the meaning of Christmas, Santa shared with them the nativity Christmas story. The play had three scenes and a finale: Scene 1: The Annunciation – Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary. The Performing Arts Club performed an interpretative dance of “Mary Did You Know.” The D’TORCH Orchestra and Choir performed “O Come, O Come Emmanuel”.
Scene 2: The Announcement of the Census - The Emperor, Caesar Augustus, wants to know how many people are living in the land. The D’TORCH Orchestra and Choir performed “O Little Town of Bethlehem.”
Scene 3: The Journey to Bethlehem – Joseph and Mary set off on a long journey to Bethlehem. The Kindergarten students sang “Little Donkey, Little Donkey”. The D’TORCH Orchestra and Choir performed “Hark the Herald”. The DIS Dance Troupe performed an interpretative dance, “Angels Libera.” The Kindergarten performed a song number, “Go Tell It to the Mountains”. The D’TORCH Orchestra and Choir performed “We Three Kings.” The Finale – presentation of the talents/performers. The D’TORCH Orchestra and Choir performed “Angels We Have Heard on High.”
The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception – Eucharistic Celebration was held in the gymnasium at 8:30 AM. DIS celebrates its founding anniversary every 8th of December, which coincides with the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. It is a Catholic feast of Mary’s conception without sin. Catholics honor Mary, our Mother. The main celebrant is the school chaplain, Fr. Tomasz Zalewski, OP. Concelebrated by Dominican Friars – Fr. Lawrence Lew, OP and Fr. Wojciech Golubiewski, OP.
After the mass, Sr. Jacqueline gave a Jubilee message. The VIP Executive Committee, led by its chairperson Ms. Janice Liu, presented a cake that symbolizes the 67 years of existence of the school. Cake-cutting ensued. The program ended with the singing of the “Happy Birthday Song”. The whole school community was treated with pizzas.
